Dr. Nawar Touchan DMD, FRCD(c), Board-Certified Periodontist
Dr. Nawar Touchan is an Ottawa-based periodontist with over 15 years of clinical experience, with a clinical focus on implant therapy and allograft (none palate donor tissue) gum grafting. Dr. Nawar Touchan graduated from the University of Montreal’s Dental Medicine program in 2006. He then pursued a General Practice Residency in Detroit at the prestigious John D. Dingell VA Medical Center where he provided advanced restorative treatments to American war veterans.
Dr. Touchan continued his specialty training in periodontics at Columbia University in New York City. During his specialty training, Dr. Touchan also served as a clinical professor, teaching undergraduate dental courses in restorative dentistry and advanced courses in bone grafting, implant placement and regenerative procedures in the Graduate Periodontics program.
He practices at Periodontal Associates, where he serves as a primary referral resource for general dentists and specialists managing routine to complex periodontal and implant cases.
Dr. Touchan’s practice emphasizes predictable implant outcomes, biologically driven treatment planning, and contemporary allograft mucogingival techniques aimed at reducing patient morbidity while maintaining long-term stability. He routinely manages medically complex cases and collaborates closely with referring dentists to ensure clear communication, efficient sequencing of care, and timely restorative hand-back.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Touchan is a frequent lecturer in Ottawa, regularly presenting on a wide range of periodontal topics including implant therapy, grafting techniques, peri-implant disease, and interdisciplinary treatment planning. He is widely recognized within the local dental community for his practical, evidence-based approach and referral-focused philosophy of care.
Dr. Touchan pursues continuous education courses on a regular basis. He is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian College of Periodontology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is also member of the Canadian and American Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology and the Ottawa Dental Society.
